Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Civil Engineering Scholarships

Do you know a student who is interested in Engineering?  Math?  CAD?  Building structures or roadways?  If so, we have an exceptional scholarship opportunity available!  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers two scholarship programs geared toward civil engineering.  These scholarships provide money for college, paid summer employment while in school, and full-time employment after college graduation.  This opportunity can’t be beat!!  The application deadline is February 1.  Below you will find a brief description.  More details and the applications can be found at the links below.

 

The Civil Engineering Scholarship Program is for students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at Western KY University, University of Louisville, or University of Kentucky.  Students can also take classes at other Kentucky state colleges/universities, with approved programs, before transferring to WKU, UofL, or UK.  Candidates must have an ACT composite score of 24 and maintain a GPA of 2.5 while in college.  College Freshmen and Sophomores currently receive $6,200 a semester to apply towards tuition, books, etc.  Juniors and Seniors receive $6,600 a semester.  Students are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.  This scholarship can be worth over $51,000!  https://transportation.ky.gov/Education/Pages/Civil-Engineering-Scholarship.aspx

 

The Civil Engineering Technology Program is for students interested in pursuing an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg and Blue Grass Community & Technical College in Lexington.  There is opportunity at other community colleges as well (inquired for further information).  Candidates must meet the entrance qualifications for the college and maintain a GPA of 2.5.  Students receive $3,000 a semester, and are expected to work for the Cabinet upon graduation for each year they received a stipend.  https://transportation.ky.gov/Education/Pages/Civil-Engineering-Technology-Scholarship.aspx

Athletic Training Scholarship

The University of Kentucky is looking for qualified high school seniors who are interested in working as a student athletic trainer.  Their goal each year is to bring in students who have an interest in a career in the medical field (i.e. athletic training, physical therapy, nursing, pre-med, etc.) and expose them to the profession of athletic training and sports medicine. 

Scholarships are available after a student completes one year in the program.  Scholarships are awarded based on a student's performance in the athletic training room and the classroom.

Requirements:

Senior who holds a 2.75 or above cumulative GPA

Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP)

In order to promote participation in the prevention of drugs and alcohol and encourage civic involvement, the Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP) in Woodford County, has 2 unique scholarships in the amount of $1,000/each to be awarded to a total of 4 students from Woodford County.  

 

The Achiever Scholarship (2 awards)- Essay Topic:  " How to you plan to use your life experiences and/or the challenges that you have overcome related to drug abuse & addiction to positively impact those who are suffering from drug or alcohol abuse and/or addiction?"

The emphasis is placed on the written scholarship and monies will be paid directly to the institution of higher learning as directed by the award recipients.  ASAP would also be happy to be present at the Awards Assembly to present the awards to the chosen students.

Lockheed Martin STEM scholarship

Calling all STEM Scholars!

Lockheed Martin has launched a new scholarship program to provide opportunities to students who want to build their talents and change the world!

Beginning in 2019, we are awarding 200 scholarships of $10,000 per student – renewable each year. The program will continue to add up to 200 new recipients each year, and will be open to individuals studying engineering or computer science that demonstrate financial need and come from underrepresented or underserved communities.

The scholarship program doesn’t end with a check. Mentoring opportunities will be a key component of the program, and recipients will also be eligible for Lockheed Martin internship opportunities following their freshman year in college.

Eligibility Requirements

Students who demonstrate financial need and come from an underrepresented group or underserved community will be eligible to receive a Lockheed Martin STEM Scholarship. Applicants must also meet the following criteria:

  • Majoring or planning to major in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Math, Physics, Information Systems/Management Information Systems or Information Assurance
  • High school senior with a 3.5 or above GPA
  • Freshman/sophomore undergraduate students with a 3.0 or above GPA
  • Attending or planning to attend an accredited U.S. four-year college or university
  • U.S. citizen
  • Be willing to consider a paid internship with Lockheed Martin following their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college, other circumstances notwithstanding (note: the internship is not required to receive a scholarship)

Woodford County Conservation District
AGRICULTURAL/NATURAL RESOURCES SCHOLARSHIP 

The Woodford County Conservation District will award a scholarship in the amount of $1500 per semester to a graduating senior who is a resident of Woodford County. If there is not a viable graduating senior applicant then a former scholarship winner would be considered.

This scholarship must be used at a college/university or technical college in Kentucky.

The candidate must meet the following criteria to be eligible.
*Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a KY college/university, technical college;
*Maintain a 3.0 or above grade point average in high school and 2.0 or above in college/university, technical college (transcript required);
*Must demonstrate financial need; and
must be majoring in agriculture or related science in college/university, technical college.
Judging:
The Education Committee of the Woodford County Conservation District will make the final selection from the applicants. Their recommendation will be presented to the District Board for approval.


Payment of Scholarship:
Upon receiving the award the recipient must show proof of college/university enrollment. To be able to receive the second payment of the scholarship, recipient must mail first semester college transcript to the Woodford County Conservation District.

The Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society (BIACS)

BIACS is pleased to offer several ($1500 and $1000) Merit and Need based scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the Commonwealth of Kentucky

 

Scholarship Applications will be accepted electronically through March 15, 2019

Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 (merit based), 2.5 (merit or need based)
  • Resume: 2 pg limit, use of template resume is recommended
  • Personal Essay: 250 word limit (tell us why you need this scholarship and any other information not covered in your resume)
  • Letter of recommendation: At least 1. Must show your name, address and name of your school. Must be written by a faculty member at your current academic institution, who is familiar with your academic standing and/or financial need. Letters by family members/relatives will not be considered. 
  • Need-based scholarship awardees must present proof of income upon request.

 

Scholarships will be awarded at the Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society Annual Banquet on April 20, 2019 in Lexington, KY (venue TBD).

 

Awardees must be present to accept the award at the banquet; failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the award. Each awardee receives 2 Banquet tickets along with the Scholarship Award. The banquet is a formal dinner. Therefore, appropriate formal attire is mandatory (Please contact us if you need assistance with travel/attire).
