[ details ] #WoodfordREADS Kickoff
@ 1:45 PM — 2:15 PM
More Information

To support the important foundation of early literacy, we are excited to send home the second book in the Woodford READS (Read, Explore and Discover Success) initiative.  Each child will be given the book The Spray Paint Mystery.  Mayor Brian Traugott will read with our students at 1:45.  We then ask that each family take a few minutes each night to read a chapter from the book together.  For our preschool and early primary students, a parent, another adult or an older sibling can read the chapter to the child.  This helps expand the student’s vocabulary and build important literacy skills.  For our intermediate students, we would like for the child to read to an adult or even to a younger sibling.  While the book might be below the normal reading level of the child, they can practice reading with fluency and expression.  The goal of Woodford READS is to underscore the importance of solid reading and literacy skills that will benefit our students in every facet of life.  Through this program, we hope that setting aside a time each night to read together as a family will become a habit.  Research shows that the greatest single thing a parent can do to help in the development of their child is to read to him or her each day.  The education of children is a journey and a process and through Woodford READS, we are inviting parents and families to join us in this important endeavor.
