New Parent Background Check Requirement for Field Trips!
There is ONE MORE requirement for parent volunteers that plan to attend Field Trips each year.
Moving forward, all parents who wish to chaperone a field trip shall submit to a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) check.
This differs from and is in addition to the criminal Background Check (AOC) that we already and will continue to require every year by Sept. 15th.
Parents, if you or any family members (i.e. grandparents, siblings, etc.) plan to chaperone any field trips this year, it is very important that you visit your school's office or our central office for submission of a Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) background check. This differs from the administrative office of the courts (AOC) criminal background check in that it would show any substantiated child abuse or neglect found by the Department of Community Based Services that wouldn't necessarily show up on a criminal background check. Unlike the AOC check in which results can often be obtained the same day, the CAN checks take much longer (about a month) which is why we want to encourage you to get your CAN check as soon as possible.
If being a field trip chaperone is a possibility for you this year, please come and complete the AOC and the CAN check process by bringing the following: your driver's license and social security card. If you have any questions, please contact your school's office at 859-879-4660 or email Garet Wells at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
