David S. Hardin- Academics
David S. Hardin, Ph.D. (WCHS,1978)
An award-winning engineer, inventor, and scholar, David is a pioneer in high-assurance computing, developing failproof platforms certified by the FAA and the U.S. Department of Defense. With a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering, David holds 15 patents, is author or editor of five books and many articles and manuscripts, and has presented at more than 80 conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Rebecca Devers Mazumdar- Academics
Rebecca Devers Mazumdar, Ph.D. (WCHS,1996)
An associate professor of English at the New York City College of Technology, Rebecca has published academic articles with subjects ranging from insightful interviews to utilizing technology in the kitchen and the classroom. She has presented at conferences across the U.S. and in England, France, Finland, and Scotland. Rebecca’s teaching emphasizes connection, curiosity, empathy, and transparency. In December she was named City Tech’s Teacher of the Year for 2022-23.
Rik 'Dale' Roberts- Arts & Humanities
Rik (Dale) Roberts (WCHS,1986)
A Nashville-based comedian, speaker, and workshop leader, Rik delivers family-friendly comedy and serves on the board of the Christian Comedy Association. He is also a member of the National Speakers Association. Among his many TV, recording, and streaming projects, Rik starred in his 2018 comedy special, “Put Down the Sweet Tea,” and in 2021 co-starred in “Mayberry Man,” playing a Barney Fife impersonator.
John Melcher- Athletics
John Melcher (WCHS,1980)
Perhaps the strongest candidate in the history of Woodford’s Hall of Fame, John is a multiple U.S. and world champion powerlifter. Competing in the masters division, John has set 26 national and 12 world records in barbell squat, barbell bench press, and barbell deadlift. Additionally, John was an award-winning teacher and a boys soccer coach whose teams twice won Georgia state high school titles.
Jeff Moffett- Athletics
Jeff Moffett (WCHS,1986)
A standout dual athlete, Jeff was named in 1986 to both the Kentucky All-star basketball team and the All-CKC golf team. He led his WCHS basketball team to the only Sweet 16 berth in the school’s first 50 years. Following two years at Northern Kentucky University, Jeff became a professional golfer and won 10 tournaments. He was two times the Kentucky PGA Player of the Year and was club pro at Woodford Hills from 2003 to 2008.
Hampton H. Henton- Career Achievement
Hampton H. Henton (WCHS,1966)
Known nationally as an advocate for family farmers, Hoppy has served on more than two dozen policy and professional boards. He was, for five years, state director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Conservation/Farm Service Agency. Hoppy has opened his farm for public education, six times hosting the Woodford County Farm Tour and displaying his innovations in grain storage, shrimp and prawn production, weed and erosion control, and many more projects.
Lorie K. Logan- Career Achievement
Lorie K. Logan (WCHS,1991)
Lorie is president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, one of 12 U.S. districts in the country’s central bank system, responsible for forming national monetary policy. Before taking that role in 2022, Lorie was an executive vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, managing the Fed’s securities portfolio of more than $9 trillion. She played a prominent role in the Fed’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing on experience she gained in stabilizing prices and credit during previous national disasters.
Michele Rankin- Public Service
Michele Rankin (WCHS,1989)
A leader in innovative detention center management, Michele was the first female elected as Woodford County Jailer and is now in her third term. The hallmark of Michele’s leadership is respecting the dignity of all individuals, creating programs that benefit both the offenders and the community she serves. Many of her innovative programs are conducted in partnership with other local organizations. Michele has served on the board of the Kentucky Jailers Association for eight years.
1985 WCHS Concert Band- Special Recognition
The 1985 WCHS Concert Band brought honor to Woodford County Public Schools by receiving awards at the regional, state, and national level. Performing in the high school category (grades 10 through 12), the 103-member band received a superior rating in regional and state competitions, one of only seven bands in the commonwealth so honored. On the national stage, the concert band received a superior rating at the Chicago Heritage Band Festival.
